Facial Liposuction
Fat commonly gathers around the neck and face creating drooping jowls, a double chin and even a mound at the nape of the back of the neck often called a buffalo hump.
Jowl, chin and neck liposuction can quickly remove fat from these areas and provide you with the facial definition you want.
Incisions for Facial Liposuction
Fat removal from small areas like the face requires a very thin liposuction tool called a microcannula.
As the cannula is so thin, only extremely small incisions are needed.
Facial liposuction incisions are generally around 2 to 3 millimetres long and placed in discrete locations like behind the ears, at the hairline or under the chin.
Facial Liposuction Anaesthesia
These small facial liposuction procedures usually only require local anaesthetic with sedation instead of general anaesthesia.
This means your facial liposuction may be performed in a Medbelle clinic space or your surgeon’s private practice as an outpatient procedure, meaning there’s no need for a hospital visit.
Keep in mind though, whether or not your procedure is performed in a clinic or a hospital operating theatre depends on your needs and your surgeon’s recommendations.
Facial Liposuction Recovery
Most facial liposuction patients can return to work and low-intensity activities 1 week after surgery. High-impact, strenuous activity can be resumed 4 to 6 weeks after.
While results are immediately visible after surgery, it may take up to 3 months for any swelling to completely resolve. Most patients are recovered by 3 months and see improvements in the area for up to a year after surgery.
What are the most common areas of the face for fat removal?
Chin Liposuction
Chin liposuction, also called submental liposuction, is a type of facial liposuction that removes excess fat under the chin.
Removing this fat via chin liposuction reduces the look of the double chin.
Incisions for chin liposuction are generally extremely small and located on the bottom of the chin where the chin meets the neck.
Chin liposuction incisions are usually very difficult to see once they heal.
Neck Liposuction
Fat removal at the neck with liposuction can improve the look of sagging or banding. Neck liposuction provides a more refined and firm appearance by removing protruding fat from the area.
Incisions for neck liposuction are exceedingly small and discreetly placed commonly under the chin, behind the ears or at the hairline.
Neck liposuction can also easily remove fat from the nape of the neck, reducing the look of accumulated fat often called a buffalo hump.
A buffalo hump can quickly and easily be removed via neck liposuction.
Jowl Liposuction
Jowls are on the lower part of the face just below the jawline. As we age or gain weight, this part of the face tends to become less firm and collect extra fat which leads to drooping and sagging.
For younger patients who have skin that’s still firm and elastic, liposuction may be able to improve the appearance of the jowls via fat removal from the jawline which restores definition.
Facelift and Neck Lift to Remove Excess Skin
For patients who lack firmness and elasticity in their facial skin due to age or genetics, excess skin may need to be removed to give you the results you want.
To get you to your goals, your surgeon may recommend combining your facial liposuction procedure with a facelift or neck lift.
These lifting procedures may be necessary to tighten the area as liposuction is only a fat removal surgery and cannot drastically tighten skin.
